IFTTT is a gold mine for content marketers. It is full of fantastic ways to simplify content marketing efforts and streamline social media management. IFTTT, which stands for ‘If This Then That’, is a unique online service which works on ‘recipes’. It is a valuable free tool that we believe all marketers should be using.

Here’s 5 incredible IFTTT recipes for content marketers.

Please note: in order to use IFTTT and the recipes linked to below you need to sign up for a free account. Simply visit https://ifttt.com/ to do this.

1. Add a new WordPress post & it updates your Facebook Page with a link post.

WordPress is the biggest self hosted blogging platform in the world. Even Content Hero is built on WordPress. This fantastic IFTTT recipe is an ideal solution for content marketers who want to find a way of automatically feeding newly published blog posts on WordPress to the biggest social network in the world, Facebook.

The benefit of using this recipe is that it will save marketers time and allow marketers to focus their efforts elsewhere.

There is also an IFTTT recipe which does the same thing for Tumblr blogs.

2. If new #Instagram photo tagged with #hashtag then post tweet with image to my #Twitter account.

Photos are one of the most popular forms of content shared online and Instagram is one of the fastest growing social networks in the world. As a content marketer Instagram is a huge opportunity, and a recipe on IFTTT combines Instagram with Twitter to create a powerful automated promotion solution.

This recipe is intended to automatically post a tweet with an Instagram photo if you use #hashtag to tag your upload. The beauty of this recipe is that you have full control, as the uploader of an Instagram photo, which photos are posted to Twitter by the recipe.

3. If we publish a new YouTube video, then post link to Chatter.

IFTTT Recipe 3

Incredible for: automatically sharing YouTube updates on Chatter.

Chatter is a fantastic – and fairly unique – corporate social network, offering influencers the ability to directly connect to one another and keep up to date with any company updates. YouTube is one of the main services that companies distribute content on in order to keep shareholders in the loop. Combining Chatter and YouTube would be a great idea.

Thankfully, that’s exactly what the ‘If we publish a new YouTube video, then post link to Chatter’ IFTTT recipe does. Whenever your company uploads a new video to YouTube it will automatically be shared with your followers on Chatter.

4. Email to Evernote.

Incredible for: managing e-mail and filtering through good content.

If you have a Gmail account, then chances are you receive at least one e-mail a day with news stories. This is a great way to keep up to date with industry trends and websites of interest. BUT, only a select few of those stories may be directly relevant to your marketing efforts.

Email to Evernote is a brilliant IFTTT recipe for content marketers which allows you to define a keyword to be searched for by IFTTT in your Gmail channel. If an e-mail with your select keyword is found (try to use a rare one), that e-mail will be automatically added to your Evernote folder for further reading, editing and sharing.

5. Sending favourite content to your WordPress blog, dawg.

IFTTT Recipe 5

Incredible for: automatically sending favourite content on Pocket to a WordPress blog.

This recipe is an interesting one. Pocket is the biggest ‘read it later’ platform in the world with over 4.5 million registered users. The service is huge, and combined with IFTTT, it has been made in to a genuinely useful tool for bloggers on WordPress.

This recipe will send all of your favourite Pocketed content to your WordPress blog, thus allowing you to re-post or post about it. It’s excellent for bloggers who like to browse the web to come up with ideas for new stories, yet fail to write down the best sources.

  1. Hey Guys,

Thank you for the round up – this has been extremely helpful for me. I am new to IFTTT and I’m building a 50 strong list of recipes just like this for my business efforts. I think IFTTT deserves A LOT more press than it gets as it truly is a remarkable tool, and even more so when you consider that it is free.

  2. I have only just started to get to grips with IFTTT, but so far it’s turning out to be a pleasurable experience.
